Dissolution Of FRI

It is with great regret that we have to announce the dissolution of FRI. At the Executive Committee meeting held in September 2009, the Founder Members (Les Blaber Ph.D., D.Sc; Paul Parker Ph.D, FLS; Arthur Tickner Dip. Hort. FLS.) all announced their retirement from the committee due to advancing years. This announcment generated a discussion about the future of FRI. It was clear that there was no next generation of scientifically qualified candidates to take over the projects that FRI have been pursuing, so the decision was taken to dissolve the Society on the 3st December 2008.

The following decisions were then made:
1. The species collection would have to be relocated. Enquiries revealed that organiztions in the UK either had no facilities to take the collection or had no facilities to carry out the research. The Jardin des Plantes at Chevreloup in Paris were enthusiastic to take the collection and to further develop the research projects. The collection has now been moved to Paris.

2. Two further editions of the Bulletin and one last issue of the Journal will be published and sent to existing members.

3. Any 2009 subscriptions will be returned .

4. All assets will be disposed of and any remaining funds will be donated to a charity, members will be notified on the web site

5. The web site will be continued for at least a year, and at that time we will assess the number of hits and decide to continue or to take the site down.

In the meantime the Founder Members will continue as an informal group and will be happy to give advice and answer questions through the contact page on the web site.
